[EN] Facing the threat of eviction in San Antonio, the need of a human rights approach

Once again, on Thursday, 27 February 2025, Chile was on the brink of the forced eviction of 4,000 families who are occupying 256 hectares of private land in the hills of the port city of San Antonio in the Valparaiso Region.


The Human Rights and Evictions Network, constituted in 2023, hereby presents an analysis of the situation of forced evictions of ‘campamentos’, or precarious settlements, in different parts of the country. These constitute gross violations of human rights, which also criminalise tens of thousands of families living in situations of social and economic vulnerability. Here, we describe the case of the threatened eviction that has been hanging over almost 10,000 people since June 2023 in Cerro Centinela in San Antonio, which occupies 256 hectares owned by Inmobiliaria San Antonio.
